The Bedlam Boys Are Bonny (with Fee Reega)

by The Great Park

/

about

Version of the 1720 song / poem ‘Mad Maudlin's Search’ by The Great Park with Fee Reega.

lyrics

For to see mad Tom of Bedlam
Ten thousand miles of bad roads she travels
On dirty toes Maudlin goes
To save her shoes, save her shoes from gravel

Her hands have murdered, murdered giants
And up her sleeves long knives she carries
And she cuts pies from children’s thighs
And feeds them nightly to the fairies

But the Bedlam boys are bonny

The spirits white, white as lightening
Would on her travels, travels guide her
And the stars would shake and the heavens break
If ever anyone tried to smite her

Oh, she would wreck the man in the moon
And set upon him turn him to powder
And beat a mad song upon his dome
And there would howl no demon louder

But the Bedlam boys are bonny

She says drink to Bedlam, let's drink to mad Tom
Go fill the barrels with all the seas
She’ll drink it all well brewed with gall
And when she’s drunk well then she’ll quarrel

Bonny boys
Bonny mad boys
Bedlam boys are bonny
